Today I have a little interview for you! I’ve had a chat with upcoming artist Cris V, he has just released his new project “Call Me?” and you should definitely check it out!
You’re from Long Beach, California. How has your hometown inspired your music?
Long Beach! The city that molded me and taught me so many things through the years.
It’s inspired me to wanna just show people from everywhere that there’s so much talent here and worth checking out and getting to know me as well as the other artist out of the city!
How did you get into music?
I’ve been making music since I was 14 years old, just hearing my mama sing around the house growing up made me wanna sing and make music…formed a group when I was a teenager and we were signed and that’s how it begun.
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world who would it be and why?
I said this before but I absolutely love H.E.R. Just an amazing talent she’s definitely #1 on my list and then there’s Kehlani who I think is super talented as well and I like Tone Stith’s sound too.
For those who haven’t heard of you, what do you want people to know about you?
What I want people to know about me is that I am a truly authentic creative person. When I make my music it’s just me the engineer and the music and I want people to understand in all of my songs there’s a message even if it’s just a light, fun type of record there’s still an underlying message. I think people can take from my experiences and apply it to their own life & relate to it.
Which one of your songs are you the most proud of and why?
So there’s two. The first one is off of my first EP (Note to my younger self) called “Where I come from”. My new most proud would be “Every hood, Every ghetto” I think the messages in these two songs are so well expressed and it’s just me being 100% transparent and honest. Its raw and vulnerable at the same time… I give listeners a glimpse into my life and how it was and how it still is where I come from.
What does your creative process look like when you are making a new song?
There’s never a set process for me when creating music. I’ve written songs on my porch before, written songs in my bedroom literally everywhere. I just feel inspired and I immediately run to my phone and start writing and then I’ll head to the studio and that’s where the magic continues .
What gives you hope?
Seeing my peers get success, seeing people that I know that I grew up with having success. I know when this is happening that I’m only a few steps away from it being my time so I have help even when I feel discouraged there’s always an ounce of hope left.
What is one of your biggest career goals?
I would love to tour the world and play shows. I would love to win awards and just be successful and able to do music full-time and make a living doing what I love the most.
What is a song that you will never get tired of listening to?
Anything Earth, Wind and Fire has done! That music hits differently to me.. I think about my mom and grandparents and good times in my life.
What has been your favourite moment in your career so far?
So far it’s been full of ups and downs but I would say my favorite moment is when my song “Compliments” that was released last year in 2019 started picking up and getting more views and more people talking about it …. they telling me how much they appreciate it. My Fanbase is growing very slowly but surely so that has to be my favorite moment so far.
Where do you plan on travelling to next?
I would love to go to Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa literally everywhere and just perform my music all over the world and inspire people the way I was inspired growing up by these amazing artists that paved the way for me.
